Comparison of Microcanonical and Canonical Hadronization

چکیده

Average multiplicities and transverse momenta of hadrons are calculated using a microcanonical hadronization description for a cluster of given total energy and volume. As a function of the total energy, we determine the critical volume above which the microcanonical description coincides with the canonical one, and compare the results with those obtained using one of standard canonical models. We show that the critical volume depends on the energy and the mass of the hadrons. For heavy particles, volumes above 50 fm3 are needed, even more than100 fm3 if one considers transverse momenta. Thus the prediction of heavy hadron multiplicities in pp, Kp, and e+e− reactions requires a microcanonical approach, whereas for heavy ion reactions a canonical calculation is valid. We conclude by showing the importance of the feeding for the observed hadron multiplicities.

Statistical hadronization and hadronic microcanonical ensemble I

We present a full treatment of the microcanonical ensemble of the ideal hadron-resonance gas in a quantum-mechanical framework which is appropriate for the statistical model of hadronization. By using a suitable transition operator for hadronization we are able to recover the results of the statistical theory, particularly the expressions of the rates of different channels. Explicit formulae ar...

Statistical hadronization and hadronic microcanonical ensemble II

We present a Monte-Carlo calculation of the microcanonical ensemble of the of the ideal hadronresonance gas including all known states up to a mass of about 1.8 GeV and full quantum statistics. The microcanonical average multiplicities of the various hadron species are found to converge to the canonical ones for moderately low values of the total energy, around 8 GeV, thus bearing out previous ...

Dynamics and Thermodynamics of Nanoclusters

The dynamic and thermodynamic properties of nanoclusters are studied in two different environments: the canonical and microcanonical ensembles. A comparison is made to thermodynamic properties of the bulk. It is shown that consistent and reproducible results on nanoclusters can only be obtained in the canonical ensemble. Nanoclusters in the microcanonical ensemble are trapped systems, and incon...

Basis of a non Riemannian Geometry within the Equilibrium Thermodynamics

Microcanonical description is characterized by the presence of an internal symmetry closely related with the dynamical origin of this ensemble: the reparametrization invariance. Such symmetry possibilities the development of a non Riemannian geometric formulation within the microcanonical description of an isolated system, which leads to an unexpected generalization of the Gibbs canonical ensem...

Derivation and improvements of the quantum canonical ensemble from a regularized microcanonical ensemble

We develop a regularization of the quantum microcanonical ensemble, called a Gaussian ensemble, which can be used for derivation of the canonical ensemble from microcanonical principles. The derivation differs from the usual methods by giving an explanation for the, at the first sight unreasonable, effectiveness of the canonical ensemble when applied to certain small, isolated, systems. This me...
